Genetic Counselor
Some hematologic disorders such as hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, sickle cell disease and some forms of thrombophilia are inherited. For this reason, the IHTC has genetic counselors that work with patients and their families regarding their disorders. They provide counseling to patients about inheritance patterns and the risks of the conditions occurring in family members, as well as availability and options for genetic testing. The genetic counselor maintains an extensive database of family trees and identified genetic defects within patients/families in Indiana.
