The Center’s Program
The IHTC is a 501(c)(3) (nonprofit)
multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment
facility serving the people of Indiana who
have bleeding disorders or thrombotic disease
(known collectively as disorders of
coagulation). The IHTC is Indiana’s only
federally recognized comprehensive hemophilia
center, and is noted as one of the largest
centers in the country in terms of patients
and medical staff. The center aids local
medical providers in the care of individuals
of all ages with blood disorders and their
families.
The program is funded by the Department of
Health and Human Services – Maternal and Child
Health Bureau, the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, and the Indiana State
Department of Health. The center is also
supported by income received from patient care
and by a federally
sanctioned pharmacy program.
IHTC’s Objectives
- Identify all individuals throughout the state of Indiana with bleeding and clotting disorders.
- Provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, educational and consultative services for physicians, patients with bleeding and clotting disorders, and patients’ families.
- Offer educational programs for professional and paraprofessional medical providers involved in the care of individuals with disorders of coagulation.
- Assess and address reported complications in the long-term care of patients with disorders of coagulation.
- Provide educational updates to patients and families with disorders of coagulation.
- Provide confidential testing, counseling and follow-up for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), hepatitis and other blood-borne viral infections.
