Programs and Services

The IHTC offers an extensive array of programs and services concerning the treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders and sickle cell disease. As part of this, the center provides educational sessions for patients, their families, medical providers, schools, civic groups and other interested organizations. The IHTC’s menu of programs and services includes:

  • Twice–monthly comprehensive clinics
  • Statewide patient outreach program: annual comprehensive clinics are held in Fort Wayne, South Bend, Merrillville, Terre Haute, Evansville and Bloomington
  • Specialty clinics, including: anticoagulation, prophylaxis, immune tolerance, hepatitis C and sickle cell; plans are in the works to develop a women’s clinic
  • Orthopedic services, including specialized evaluation and interventions such as radionuclide, arthro– and open synovectomy; joint replacement; care for acute needs
  • Physical therapy, including a strengthening program, acute rehabilitation and sports counseling
  • Genetics counseling and testing; maintenance of a statewide database of family trees and identified genetic defects; carrier identification, care and counseling; development of guidelines for obstetricians and gynecologists for pregnancy, labor and delivery
  • Dental care/hygiene and education
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Pharmacy services
  • Hepatitis testing, immunization, intervention and follow-up
  • HIV testing, intervention and follow–up
  • Nursing services, including: coordination of local care, travel planning, direct patient care, infusion, surgical planning/coordination, patient and medical provider education, self–/home infusion training, DDAVP®/Stimate® testing, primary and secondary prophylaxis programs, immune tolerance program, phone triage and telephone consultation for patients and physicians
  • Prevention and tracking of long–term patient outcomes
  • Diagnostic testing for at–risk individuals and patientswith suspected coagulation disorders
  • General dosing guidelines and homecare monitoring
  • Outpatient anticoagulation monitoring program
  • Sickle cell program
  • Research studies and enrollment information
  • Educational programs for daycare centers, schools, physicians’ offices (in–services), hospitals (grand rounds) and emergency rooms; to schedule grand rounds on any topic in hemostasis and thrombosis for your hospital or to arrange a medical office in–service, call toll free 877 CLOTTER
  • Educational materials: patient and physician newsletters, emergency room posters, A Physician’s Primer on Hemophilia and Other Bleeding Disorders CD–ROM for CME credit
  • Medical coverage and programming development for Camp Brave Eagle summer camp for children with bleeding disorders and their siblings, ages 7–15 www.campbraveeagle.org, in collaboration with Hemophilia of Indiana Inc.
