Local Medical Center Gets CDC Grant To Collect Sickle Cell Data

A local medical center has received a 3-year grant to collect data aimed at helping Hoosiers living with sickle cell anemia. An estimated 1,500 people in Indiana are living with the disease. 

Dr. Emily Meier, pediatric hematologist and director of sickle cell research at the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center in Indianapolis, spoke with WFYI's Terri Dee about why Indiana was chosen for the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention study.
