Dr. J. Michael Soucie recognized

Soucie Award

HTC is very pleased to recognize the 2019 recipient of the Ike G. Batalis Community Service Award. Ike was a dedicated member of our Board of Directors until his untimely passing in 2017. During the years of his distinguished banking career, Ike demonstrated a deep passion and belief in community service and was active in many community and national organizations.

The Board selected Dr. J. Michael Soucie as the award's 2019 recipient. As an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for more than 20 years, Dr. Soucie’s focus has been the utilization of data analysis to improve care and outcomes for people with bleeding disorders.

Dr. Soucie’s contributions have assisted in the development and evaluation of public health interventions to prevent or reduce the complications associated with these disorders. The results of these analyses—published in more than 100 peer-reviewed articles—have provided information to the bleeding disorder community in several key areas, including the importance of comprehensive hemophilia treatment centers in decreasing mortality and morbidity, factors associated with the prevention of joint disease, occurrence rates and risk factors for intracranial hemorrhage in babies, the safety of treatment products used to stop and prevent bleeding, and the effects of hemophilia inhibitors on quality of life and mortality.

The Board was honored to present Dr. Soucie (pictured here with IHTC’s Dr. Amy Shapiro) with this year’s Ike G. Batalis award and thanks him for his many years of support to the bleeding and clotting disorder communities.

Congratulations, Dr. Soucie!
